Before buying another hair-care product

A new bottle is only useful if it fits your routine and your budget. Compare the product type, the amount you get and the full order cost before choosing. You can use this checklist without registering or buying anything.

Start with the step you want to change

Write down whether you are replacing a shampoo, conditioner, styling product or another part of your routine. Check what you already own and why you are considering something different. A set that adds several extra steps may cost more than replacing the one product you actually need.

Read the current label and directions for the exact product. A similar bottle or product number does not establish that two formulas have the same purpose or instructions. Follow the manufacturer's directions rather than combining products based on a social post.

Compare the same amount

Check the listed volume for every size and each item in a set. A travel bottle, a full-size bottle and a refill can have very different costs per unit. Divide the item price by its volume to compare equivalent sizes. For example, a hypothetical $24 bottle containing 240 ml costs $10 per 100 ml; a $15 bottle containing 100 ml costs $15 per 100 ml.

For a bundle, list the items you would use and their sizes before assigning value to the extras. A lower price per milliliter only helps if you expect to use the larger quantity. Check any storage and use-after-opening information on the packaging.

Read the ingredients and the shopping terms

Check the current ingredient list, warnings and directions on the seller's product page and packaging. Marketing descriptions are not a substitute for those details. This is a shopping checklist, not an assessment of whether a product is suitable for a scalp condition or an individual sensitivity.

Before ordering, read the return rules for unopened and opened products, the process for a damaged shipment, and whether a subscription or repeat order is selected. If you choose a recurring order, check the frequency, renewal price and cancellation steps.

Keep the complete order within budget

Add shipping, tax and any required fees. Compare that delivered total with the amount you planned to spend. An extra product added to reach a shipping or gift threshold can make the order more expensive, even when the extra is described as a saving.

Keep the order confirmation and a copy of the product details you relied on. Check the seller's current policies before checkout. We have not purchased or tested the products linked below, and no performance result, discount or delivery date is promised here.

An optional shopping link

OLAPLEX is a hair-care shopping option. Compare the current product information and order terms with your own checklist. Its official shampoo and conditioner collection is a source for product categories, not independent proof of a product result.
